While restrictions are easing and things are starting to get back to normal here in New Zealand, me and my family decided to go on a weekend trip out of Christchurch to Dunedin. Before lock down I had booked a solo trip down for myself but had to cancel due to all that was going on so I was now more than happy to go down with my family few a couple days!
The drive itself from Christchurch to Dunedin is a rather long and boring one but we did manage to make a few stops along the way. One of the main stops being Oamaru, the largest town of the Waitaki District with a rich history and proud heritage influenced by the steampunk aesthetic and enriched by the passionate and perhaps quirky locals. Here you will find, shops, galleries and traditional crafts within some of the Southern Hemispheres most complete Victorian streets capes and 19th century architecture.
And a great photo op like this one…
Over our time in Dunedin we went to plenty of Bars, cafes, Restaurants and Brewery’s. Some of my favorite of those I went to were…
- Modaks Espresso Cafe
- Emerson’s Brewery
- Etrusco (Italian Restaurant)
- Speight’s Brewery
- Zanzibar (bar with live music)
Dunedin is filled with great establishments and I will be back to try out many more for sure!
We also made use of the blue winter skies and went to check out St Clair’s beach followed by one incredible walk/adventure around Tunnel beach. If I recommenced anything to do in Dunedin it HAS to be to check out Tunnel beach it was absolutely breathtaking!
We also made sure to make a quick stop at the famous ‘Steepest street in the world’. A well known street for Dunedin! I may say it is actually pretty impressive as far as steep streets go! Photos could never quite grasp the full drop of this street so I will insert a photo of me instead, sat up the top, happy knowing we got to drive up instead of walk!
Dunedin managed to exceed my expectations and I really enjoyed my time there! There is many great places to visit and things to see within the area and I love the whole vibe of the city. I will be back for sure to experience so much more of what this place has to offer!
