Over 4 years ago I started to change my way of life completely, when I decided to go vegetarian it opened up a whole new world to me, I started to educate myself a lot more on what goes into all the things I consumed and used and I was shocked by what I had learned, the amount of filth I was putting on and in my body was just mind-blowing! So I started on my hunt to find more natural, eco-friendly and cruelty-free alternatives and fast track 4 or so years I can tell you there is so much out there in the market and it is growing at an ever so fast rate so my hunt wasn’t a difficult one but an exciting one!
Thanks to the internet people are beginning to learn that we don’t have to use all these combinations of chemicals to get results if anything going natural benefits us in much more ways than one. It took me well over a year to swap out all my old products but it was well worth it and I will never go back! That’s not to say I have reached my perfect all-around natural products lifestyle, there are still so many new products to try out so my collection is forever evolving and changing. As for skincare, because I am so passionate about creating and trying all different types of natural products my routine is also forever changing but there are no doubt a fair few products I will never go without and I am going to share those with you today!
Of course, you must remember everyone’s skin type is different and what works with me may not work for you (I myself have a normal to dry skin type) but through my research, I have found a lot of these products to help many people and I’m sure you will fall in love with at least one of the ones listed!
1. All hail the mighty Organic Coconut oil!
Coconut oil is my holy grain for using as a makeup remover! It works perfectly to get all makeup off including mascara and eyeliner, combine it with a grain like coffee or sugar and it works as an amazing facial scrub! But bear in mine it can clog pores and for some skin types it can be too oily so use sparingly and discontinue use if it becomes too oily for you. Coconut oil is also great for so many other things like all over body moisturizing, oil pulling and as a healthy cooking oil alternative so much sure to pick up a bottle asap!
2. Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar.
One part water mixed with four parts ACV and I have myself a toner which I love to use after I’ve used coconut oil to cleanse my face, I just put the contents in a 100ml spray bottle then spray it on a cotton pad before using it on my face to tone. ACV helps remove bacteria and acts as a natural exfoliant due to the malic acid it contains. Sometimes I like to add other things to it like Witch Hazel and essential oils to add additional healing effects.
3. Organic Pure Rose Water.
I love to use this as a facial hydrating spray. Rose water acts as an anti-inflammatory, it also helps to sooth the skin and is rich in antioxidants which can help strengthen skin cells and regenerate skin tissue. I like to use it before and after makeup to keep up hydration and throughout the day to revitalize and uplift me.
4. My homemade facial serum.
When it comes to homemade serums I myself have a fair few, I love making up many different concoctions using a variety of different essential oils with carrier oils. Some of my favorite essential oils and carrier oils include-
- Lavander essential oil
- Rose essential oil
- Frankincense essential oil
- Tea tree essential oil
- Castor carrier oil
- Sweet Almond carrier oil
- Rosehip carrier oil
Just note that essential oils should always be diluted with a carrier oil, undiluted oils can be harmful and potentially cause severe irritation and sensitization. Always aim for a 2% dilution when mixing with a carrier oil (but of course do more fact-based research before trying yourself).
5. Tea Tree Essential Oil.
Tea Tree is my go-to for acne treatment! With powerful anti-bacterial properties, it works great to help reduce the acne itself and scaring. I usually just dap a tiny spot on a Q-tip then dab it on the pimple and let it sit overnight to find it has completely dried up in the morning.
Each one of these products has become a staple in my skincare routine and my skin has never looked better!
I always make sure to purchase 100ml dark glass bottles, ones with droppers and spray nozzles and use those for the majority of my products along with re-using old bottles, this also makes them great for traveling with!
